Global freight (ie: impacts of container ships, airfreight, etc.)
Jarred Shango
In 1899, the United States started using foreign vessels to transport goods around the world, and as time went by other countries started following the trend because it was an opportunity to introduce new products into a country/market that may not have existed or were of inferior quality. Today almost every company has globally expanded, and yes it's good for businesses and capitalism but terrible for the environment.
Global freight has been impacting the environment strictly through the use of diesel fuels. Innovations for more fuel efficient engines and non-fuel engines have been put out at a consistent rate since the 1970s, but the problem is companies are still choosing to use these gas guzzlers to transport goods because it's too big of an investment to change over to something more environmentally friendly. I feel the only way to put a stop to this problem is for governments around the world to get involved and create a tax that will be imposed abroad and domestically. When that happens companies will realize it is the better idea to just switch over to environmentally friendly engines, and the problem of pollution caused by global freight will die away rapidly.
Jarred- I love your matter-of-fact and relatable way of providing info with your opinion. Like this sentence in your 1st paragrpah: "...yes it's good for businesses and capitalism. but terrible for the environment..."
ReplyDeletePlease all tell us why diesel fuels are bad for the environment, as well as what are a few of the fuel-efficient and non-fuel innovations that are the alternatives. Tell us a few... Would love to hear those!
Good start but more depth is needed. You also need caption and citation for that pic- how does that pic help tell your story- weave it in.
This post should also have been uploaded onto BB for grading as well please. Thank you.
