"Wear clothes that matter" - but first I went to see where it begins, the textiles.
Going to Texworld USA 2018, the largest sourcing exhibition for apparel fabric was an incredible experience, a great event full of companies from all around the world coming to present their new and most advance textiles, that we will soon be wearing. Texworld became a meeting point for creators in the fashion industry, a space to share and learn, to see what is happening around the world and to and to have a look into the future of clothing. It is the place you want to be!
I had the chance to hear from the Directors everything about the process of forecasting trends and you wouldn't think but everything around us, from social issues, to art, to even food, has an influence on the future trends. It is a task that requires a deep analysis and research of society, I think it could be a really fun job to have, right? Plus you get to travel, a LOT! :)
So if you want to know what is the most trendy now well... SUSTAINABILITY! Yes, green is the new black, fashion is changing to for good, to a better and harmless industry. New technologies have allow us to re-use and recycle materials like plastic and transform them into fabrics.
Want to know more? well it gets better...
I got the chance to know one of the sustainable companies present at the show, Lenzing, a main supplier of textiles around the world best known for being leaders in fiber innovation. They produce botanics fibers from wood, yes renewable wood!
After a complex procedure they are able to obtain cellulose fiber form the wood (Cellulose is the main component of cell walls in plants, therefore it is the most important construction material in nature). This natural fibers are combined with other properties of synthetic fiber and as a result a high quality textile is produce.
This process requires of specialize technology to transform wood pulp into cellulose fiber and Lenzing group is the best at it. It goes without saying that the company has won multiple Eco awards for their responsible labor :)
As them there are more others changing the game little by little, now it is on us to be conscious, raise awareness and spread the word!!
