Great Sustainable Sourcing At Texworld

Getting the opportunity to get to explore Texworld at the Jacob K. Javits Center for the first time was very exciting! When getting there my Sustainability and the Future of Fashion class started the tour by having Louis Gerin and Gregory Lamaud talk to the class about how sustainability is starting to make a huge impact on all industries especially fashion. They also talked to us about how artists are the center of creation because they are the ones that highlight the doubts and hopes of our civilizations. Below are some of the different fabrics that were presented at their station. We then had the opportunity to  look at the denim section of Texworld, and our tour leader wanted us to see the different approaches of different denim because that is what they are forecasting for denim to be very popular with sustainability.

The whole class then had the opportunity to explore Texworld ourselves and see how people and different countries are taking different initiatives to incorporate sustainability into their upcoming merchandise. While looking around I found the Tek-Tiles Signal Cycle Jacket. With this jacket it equips bicyclists with turn  signals for safer riding in the city or wherever they are traveling at night. The garment is to be constructed as a jersey knit with pockets. Some of the materials that it consists of are wooly nylon and LED sequins. This jacket contains programmable LED rows and a soft button so it helps create the jacket to make turn signals. Tek-Tiles is known for using materials that have incredible potential to redefine the function of apparel and to make our lives healthier, safer, and more productive. Overall, Tek-Tiles incorporates sustainability into their merchandise by being more technology based and having a multi use for their products that are well built, and will allow their buyers to have high quality products for a long time!
