Help our planet by Jacqueline and Maureen

Help Our Planet Achieve Peace Of Mind
By: Jacqueline Ryan and Maureen Crete

Living in New York everyone wishes for warmer days, but at what price are we feeling these warmer days?

There’s no denying it, our Earth is getting warmer. It is not typically to feel a 70° day in January, and that is what we have experienced. For the few of you who are not seeing the toll that is being taken on our planet, this is your time to open your eyes before it is too late.

There are many things that are contributing to the depreciation of our planet. A big factor in this is trees being cut down constantly. As our population continues to raise, there needs to be a place for these individuals to live. That living space is being created by cutting down trees, which is cutting down on the amount of CO2 in the air. This is harmful since this is taking away something that helps us breathe, and building companies or apartment complexes that contribute to the problem our planet is facing.

Also, as our temperatures rise, so do the amount of natural disasters. Not only are these natural disasters terrible for all parties who are involved, they are mostly harmful for the Earth. As tides rise and flooding occurs, there are pollutants that are being washed into the water and damaging the life that lives in it.

Another natural disaster that goes hand-in-hand with the rising temperature of the Earth is wildfires. Typically, in areas such as California, these wildfires spread for miles and destroy everything that is in its path.

There’s so many ways that you can help our fight to keep our planet happy. You can start by measuring your carbon footprint and go from there to make adjustments on your lifestyle in order to improve the bad impact you may have.

Also, SPREAD THE WORD! The more people who join this battle and help our fight, the more successful we will be. Talk to your family members, friends, peers, anyone who you think should know (which is everyone!) and have them join the fight.

  3. For sure living in a city such as New York has a lot of pollution and with the weather depreciation it doesn’t help.
It is important that we act in a more sustainable way and invest in renewable energy in order to reduce this pollution and avoid déforestation which is killing our Earth.

  4. You started off right away with pretty strong language that helped convey your point which was great. I also liked how you included a few different ways to change ourselves individually to better the Earth. Lastly, I really loved the graphic presented here, showing the effects of ignoring the problem for so long.

  5. Jacqueline and Maureen-

I love how you appealed to the New Yorker in your opening sentence. Every time we have a 70º day in January, I usually feel lucky. Realistically, we should be more concerned about warmer weather in the Winter. Good post, really got me thinking.

  6. I agree with Andrew, and love that you made a personal tie-in by stating the temperatures in NY! NICE! I also love that 1st sentence: “There’s no denying it, our Earth is getting warmer.” Very conversational, to-the-point, and relatable to all readers! I LOVE that you are offering ways people can measure their own footprint (with your link). Excellent! I can't stop thinking about your graphic with its almost doomsday-ish vibe! WE MUST CHANGE!
