If I were the Director of Sustainability at Dor L’ Dor -- Maria Lieggi

If I were the Director of Sustainability at Dor L’ Dor. I would lower our negative environmental footprint. By doing so, I would decrease the number of greenhouse gases that enter into the atmosphere due to our business process. I believe one of the key points of an organization changes their processes from toxic to sustainable, starts with transportation. Transportation is one of the highest forms of activity for releasing greenhouse gases. If I was the Director of Sustainability at Dor L’ Dor, I would use energy-powered transportation vehicles. Yes,  these energy-powered transportation vehicles are usually very small. Instead of using several of these small, energy powered vehicles, we would develop a way to find shipping trucks that are constructed to run under energy instead of fossil fuel. By making this mall change, the thousands of deliveries we do monthly would not impact the environment in a negative way. I would also try to install and use solar panels in our showroom, corporate and warehouse locations to help save energy and electricity. I would also provide a recycling program. This program would help consumers and the company by giving the consumers the ability to return their clothing they no longer use, could be from Dor L' Dor or not, we would accept their old clothes and reuse them into producing our new merchandise. This would allow us to save these clothes from being burned, destroyed or unable to decompose. This will help the consumer because we would offer them a discount on their purchase as an incentive to participate in this sustainable program.
Greenhouse gases and fossil flues are independently deteriorating our atmosphere. After hearing an informative lecture from Dr. Chandu, I learned how detrimental these gases are to the atmosphere and environment—these gases and fuels stay in our atmosphere for over 1,000 years, heat our land and water, pollute our air and contaminate our drinking water.

A few things that excite me about these changes to Dor L' Dor would be that we would be making an impact just by doing our everyday job. If everyone made just a few simple changes to their daily lives ( used recycled water bottles instead of plastic ones, stopped using straws, didn't run the water when brushing their teeth, Etc.) These are little changes that I believe if everyone took the time to make at least one or even several—that we would be able to save the world together. With the addition of the Sustainable program, change to energy powered transportation and solar-powered electricity in the workplace, these changes can slowly impact the environment, and Dor L' Dor is the start to this change… hopefully, other companies will add to the change too.
