My visit to Texworld!

WE ARE THE FUTURE!
By: Sabrina Floccuzio

As a sustainable fashion blogger, I am going to let all of you know what we, as individuals, can do in order to help improve our current fashion model. There are so many ways that we could better our planet, especially in the fashion industry, but first we need to develop a better understanding of how to preserve and restore our environment. On Wednesday, January 24th, I visited Texworld with my class and learned a lot of valuable information about how to create sustainable fashion. The booth that stood out to me most was probably HEISEL, which is a design lab for sustainable fashion, technology, and 3D printing. The woman at this booth was nice and extremely passionate about this company. The system delivers faster prototyping, on demand manufacturing, sustainable materials, no production minimums, almost zero waste, customizable sizing, and quantifiable design, production and material usage. It is incredible to see what they are able to create simply by recycling materials with almost no waste. On each side of the booth, there were mannequins dressed in stunning 3D printed attire. The garments truly are so futuristic and inspiring to look at. Having said that, I can definitely see these becoming a big trend within the next few years. I am completely obsessed with the hooded jacket because it is such a bold and fashionable statement piece. Who would have thought that saving the earth could look this chic?!
People need to be further educated on alternative options and possibilities when it comes to sustainable fashion. The only remains of the garments, which were given out to us, were a few extra pieces that resembled the image below.

Custom design, samples and product development
Print on demand production
Consulting on equipment, materials and design software
Education workshops in 3D printing for fashion

  1. Hello Sabrina!

I absolutely loved reading your blog post about your experience at Texworld! It is so important for us to begin making the changes necessary in order to build the sustainable future that we want and need. HEISEL seems like an extremely innovative company that is embracing new technologies like 3D printing which can drastically influence the fashion industry when it comes to production processes. Creating samples and prototypes is often costly and produces a large amount of waste. HEISEL, however, can provide the solution to this problem. As you mentioned, these garments shown above are sustainable AND fashion forward! I would not be surprised if this type of design is seen on runways in the coming years. Overall, it seems like you had an amazing experience at Texworld and I really enjoyed learning about the initiatives that HEISEL is taking to build a better tomorrow. Not to mention how impressive it is that the only waste was the small plastic ring!

  2. Sabrina- Fab work on this blog post. Your enthusiasm is outstanding, as well is your lively and upbeat writing style. Thank you!
Your report on Heisel is informative (and entertaining). ou also explain well why 3D will help improve our production model (zero waste, customizable sizing, etc). I love when you say: “Who would have thought that saving the earth could look this chic?!“ That’s so well said and that’s exactly what we need to tell (and show) people- that dressing sustainably is not wearing burlap and undyed clothing! Great post and thank you!
